Chitwa Chitwa was originally a private retreat for the Brink family for over 40 years and is situated on a large lake that serves as a popular watering area for many game. In 1991 it was transformed into a private game lodge by the owners, Charl and Maria Brink. The lodge got it’s name from an ageing giraffe that resided close to the Brink family home and became an “extended family member” of the family. The lodge is decorated in a European meets African chic style. The lodge is a true marvel of luxury combined with the wilderness of the bush and provides unsurpassed quality, style and beauty. With exceptional service, amazing food and some of the best game viewing in the industry, this lodge is a fast favourite with guests from all over the world.
Chitwa Chitwa has two lodges. The first is the main lodge with its eight spacious luxury suites and the other is the ultra-luxurious private Chitwa House.
The main lodge has only eight luxury suites, providing not only one of the most luxurious experiences in the bush but also one of the most exclusive. Each suite has the following facilities:
The main lodge also has another family suite named the Charlsy Suite and is perfect for families or friends who happen to be traveling together. This suite has a spacious common area and a private viewing deck with swimming pool.
Chitwa House is a spacious private villa that offers two en-suite bedrooms. The house and suites has the following features:
From the deck of the lodge you will be treated to views of the lake’s resident hippopotamus and other various species of animals that frequent the lake as a water source, including elephant, buffalo, antelope, giraffe, lion, wild dog and various other. It is also a popular place to view water birds.
Big Five sightings, though not guaranteed, are quite common. Other game is also seen often, such as cheetah, hyena and various other animals found in the Greater Kruger National Park. The area is well known for spotting rare species such as roan antelope, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and wild dog.
For the avid birder there are ample opportunities to find interesting specimens as the area is home to over 450 recorded species of birdlife. The area is especially known for the various raptor sighting which may include Martial, Tawny and Fish Eagles as well as Steppe Buzzards. The endangered Southern Ground Hornbills have nesting sites close to the lodge. This is truly a birder’s paradise
